Pairings that work — and ones that don't
Choosing cities is really choosing combinations, because the flight map between them is not what the road map suggests.
- 4 days
Bali
A first taste, a long weekend, or a stopover you want to use properly.
- 7 days
Bali (south) + Ubud
Temples, rice terraces, and beach without leaving the island.

- varies
Jakarta + Gili Islandsawkward
capital versus car-free Gilis — route through Bali or Lombok with two legs minimum
- varies
Yogyakarta + Nusa Penidaawkward
Java temples versus Bali cliff island — fly to DPS then ferry; not a same-week overland link
- varies

Bali highlands versus Komodo — opposite ends of the archipelago; budget two flights
- varies
Bandung + Floresawkward
West Java hills versus eastern Flores — multiple flights; pick one region per trip

Common questions
How many days do you need in Indonesia?+
Ten to fourteen days covers Bali and Yogyakarta, or Bali and Komodo, without rushing. Seven days works for Bali only, or Bali with one Java stop. The limit is flight days, not map distance.
Do I need a visa for Indonesia?+
Many nationalities enter visa-free or apply online for an e-VOA at molina.imigrasi.go.id. Rules change by passport — check the official portal; we do not give visa advice.
Is Indonesia expensive?+
On the ground it is inexpensive by western European standards — roughly €35 to €55 per person per day at mid-range, excluding flights. Komodo liveaboards and peak holiday weeks cost more.
What is the best month to visit?+
April to October suits Bali, Lombok, and Java. May to September is best for Komodo and Flores boat days. Wet season Nov–Mar still works in some regions but brings rough seas and afternoon storms on Bali.
Bali or Lombok?+
Bali for infrastructure, food, and first trips; Lombok for quieter beaches and Mount Rinjani. They are linked by fast boat or a short flight — not interchangeable for Nyepi rules, which apply to Bali only.
Costs are research-based estimates, not live prices — verify before booking.
