Common questions
How many days do you need in Malaysia?+
Ten to fourteen days covers Kuala Lumpur, Penang, and one island coast without rushing. Seven days works for two peninsula stops — KL and Penang, or KL and Langkawi. Borneo needs its own week.
Do I need a visa for Malaysia?+
Many nationalities enter visa-free or apply online via malaysiavisa.imi.gov.my — rules change by passport. We do not give visa advice.
Is Malaysia expensive?+
On the ground it is moderate by western European standards — roughly €45 to €70 per person per day at mid-range, excluding flights. Langkawi resorts and Borneo lodges cost more.
What is the best month to visit?+
December to February suits Kuala Lumpur, Penang, and Langkawi on the west coast. East-coast islands (Perhentian, Tioman) are best March to October. Borneo is drier April to September.
Penang or Langkawi?+
Penang for George Town food and heritage; Langkawi for resort beaches and island calm. They pair well in one trip — fly between in under an hour.
Kota Kinabalu or Sandakan for wildlife?+
Sandakan for Sepilok orangutan and Kinabatangan river lodges. Kota Kinabalu adds Kinabalu park and easier island day trips — pick one Sabah wildlife base unless you have ten nights.
