Transport
Prepare before the belt: liquids in one transparent liter bag, laptops and large electronics out unless TSA Pre or equivalent, empty pockets, belt and watch off. Wear slip-on shoes if you must remove them. Power banks stay in carry-on — never checked. Rules differ slightly by country; follow posted signs at departure airport, not last trip’s habits.
Planning
Take public transit when it is safe, direct, and you travel light. Pre-book a transfer when you land late, have heavy luggage, travel with children, or the official taxi rank is known for hassle. Rideshare and official taxi ranks work in many cities if you confirm the pickup zone and avoid touts inside the terminal.
Money
Withdraw local currency from bank-affiliated ATMs in cities rather than airport-only kiosks when possible — airport rates and fees are often higher. Take enough for a day or two on arrival, then refill as needed; carrying large stacks invites pickpockets. Decline DCC at the ATM screen and let your home bank convert.
Packing
Beach trips need sun protection, two swim options, cover-up for shops and sun, and sandals that handle sand and short walks — buy bulky sunscreen and aloe at destination when allowed to save weight. Pack a dry bag for phone and book; leave expensive jewelry home. One light outfit for evening dining beats five resort outfits you never wear.
Booking
Online travel agencies (OTAs) are useful for comparing options and reading structured filters; booking direct with the airline or hotel often wins on changes, loyalty points, and support when plans shift. After you find a property, check its official site for the same dates — rate parity is not guaranteed. Avoid paying outside the platform on “too good” social media deals.
Safety
Most tourist scams reuse a handful of patterns: unlicensed transport, “free” gifts that become payment demands, fake officials, wrong change, and distraction thefts. Recognize the setup, decline without debating, and use official ranks, apps, or prepaid bookings instead of accepting help from strangers in arrival halls.
